Kovalam Village

a friendly village by the Arabian Sea in southern Kerala.

lighthouse in KovalamTwo curved, sandy beaches – Eve’s Beach and Lighthouse Beach – provide the picturesque setting for seaside holidays, popular with Indian people and foreigners. Eve’s Beach is fringed with palms whilst Lighthouse Beach has a backdrop of restaurants and small shops.

The sea is good for swimming and body-boarding, with well-trained lifeguards to keep an eye on everyone’s safety.

Sunset is a special time and it’s wonderful to sit in a restaurant or on the sand and watch the sun sink down into the sea.

The red-and-white striped lighthouse at the end of the beach is a great landmark. Fishing is still carried out from the beach, in the traditional way, and it’s fascinating to watch – or even help - the men haul in their nets.

a cafe in KovalamKovalam restaurants cater for all tastes – with good fresh seafood and an excellent choice for vegetarians. There are western-style dishes or local curries – you can ask for them to be made less spicy if you like.

You can spend your days visiting local sights, lazing on a sun-bed and swimming in the sea, or at one of the local hotel’s swimming pools (for a small charge). There are also quieter beaches within walking distance.

When it’s cooler, in the evening, you can browse for jewellery, clothes, handicrafts and gifts from the shops. You can also enjoy having your own designs created – or your favourite clothes copied – by the skilled Kovalam tailors.

There are good facilities for internet and international telephone connections in Kovalam.

We are happy to advise you on places to visit nearby: temples, festivals, and markets where you can experience the Kerala way of life. For total relaxation, a trip to the tranquil Backwaters is a must – enjoy being punted through the rivers, alive with birds and other wildlife.
